Package Details

  1. Day One

Fly into Belize City, Belize where you will go pass through Immigrations and Customs and then walk directly over to the Tropic Air counter. Take a short 20 minute flight to Ambergris Caye where you will be met by El Pescador. Located on 10 minutes away on the northern end of the island, El Pescador offers 13 guest rooms and eight new luxurious and spacious villas for those needing more space and privacy. El Pescador also offers its guests a bar, lounge with flat screen TV, wifi, three pools, spa service, and a beautiful beachfront location. Just because it’s one of the world’s best fishing lodges doesn’t mean it can’t feel like a high end resort!

  2. Day Two

Let’s go fishing! El Pescador is proud to employ 20 full time guides, some of which span two generations working at the lodge. These guys are the best in the business and they know every inch of their 400 sq mile fishery. No matter if you want to target bonefish, permit, or tarpon they have spots for all of them ranging anywhere from the border with Mexico down to Belize City. You should bring your own gear to El Pescador, however if you cannot or don’t own all the rods you’ll need you can borrow demo rods from the lodge. For bonefish an 8 wt with 10 lb leader is recommended, a 9 wt with 12 lb leader is ideal for permit, and a 10 wt with 16-20 lb leader for the silver king will suit you well.

  3. Day Three

Diving day! Head out with El Pescador’s private dive master, Alonso, for a fun filled two tank dive. Alonso is local to Ambergris Caye so he knows plenty of dive spots that the larger, cattle tour dive boats don’t go to. Today you’ll dive right in front of the resort at a gap in the reef at spots like Tres Cocos and Punta Arenas. Keep your eyes peeled for grouper, snapper, nurse sharks, spotted eagle rays, and sea turtles. The dive sites are so close to the lodge that for your surface interval you’ll actually come back to the lodge and can hop in the pool!

  4. Day Four

Let’s go fishing! Return to El Pescador’s 400 sq mile fishery and attempt to complete the grand slam – permit, bonefish, and tarpon in the same day. Anyone who has fly fished the flats knows it is one of the most challenging types of fishing you can do, but grand slams happen every year at El Pescador so you never know! If you don’t already have the perfect selection of flies that is no problem, El Pescador has a great fly shop as well. Bonefish can be found in water 6″ deep to 6 feet deep on flats or on sandy bottoms. El Pescador recommends 60% of the flies should have bead chain eyes, 30% should have lead eyes, and 10% should have plastic eyes or no eyes at all. Permit flies should be 80% lead eyes and 20% bead chain eyes.

  5. Day Five

Diving day! Today you’ll slide back into the wetsuits and BCDs for another two tank dive. The Hol Chan Marine reserve is literally minutes away, or plan a longer day out at sea and head to the world famous Blue Hole. Annually named one of the world’s top dive sites, anyone who has seen any media relating to Belize has probably seen this iconic overhead shot.

  6. Day Six

Let’s go fishing! Last day of fly fishing at El Pescador so today focus on that fish that has been eluding you all week. In addition to having incredible eyesight, permit have been known to be spooked by anything from waves breaking on the flats to diving pelicans, or even by the sound of your fly hitting the water too hard. If you are wading and you crunch too much coral under your boots be prepared to see them leave the flats for the deep water. Assuming none of that happens and you are able to present your fly to tailing permit, good luck setting the hook in their baseball-mitt tough mouths. Permit remain one of the most challenging, frustrating, and addicting game fish in the world as this type of fishing is as much about the pursuit as it is the release.

  7. Day Seven

Enjoy your last day in Belize! You spent all week on the water and under the water so take this day off to treat yourself to some beach time and relaxation. El Pescador is also just a short bike ride away from the popular town of San Pedro where you can find shopping, restaurants, and some fantastic nightlife.

  8. Day Eight

El Pescador will take you by boat to the San Pedro Airstrip for your 20 minute flight back to the BZE Airport and your flight home.
