Package Details

Day One

Fly into Belize City, Belize where you will go through Immigrations and Customs and then walk directly over to the Tropic Air desk. You’ll take a quick 20 minute domestic flight to the town of San Pedro located on Ambergris Caye. Once you land on Belize’s largest island you’ll be met by El Pescador and taken by boat 10 minutes to the northern end of the island where the resort is located. El Pescador features 13 guest rooms in the main lodge while four new spacious villas and a pool sit on each side of the main building. The property features three pools, a bar, lounge with flat screen TV and pool table, spa services, free kayaks and canoes, and of course a first rate fly shop. Your stay here is all inclusive so all of your meals, local alcoholic drinks (beer & rum), demo fly rods, canoes & kayaks, and daily casting lessons are all included in your stay.
Day Two

Let’s go fishing! You’ll meet your guide early in the morning to go over your fly selection and get on the same page of what you want to fish for. The full time guides at El Pescador are the best in the business so based on wind direction, tide charts, and what’s been biting they’ll plan their route accordingly. With a 400 sq mile fishery there is no shortage of real estate to pole and wade across in search of your grand slam. We recommend you bring your own gear to El Pescador, however if you cannot or don’t everything you need you can borrow demo rods from the resort. An 8 wt is best with 10 lb leader is best for bonefish, a 9 wt with 12 lb leader is ideal for permit, and a 10 wt with 16-20 lb leader for tarpon is suggested. Longer rod lengths allow for longer casts and the ability to pick up more line with less surface disturbance so a 9’-9.5’ rod is recommended.
Day Three

Take a day off from fishing to snorkel the famous Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Located just minutes from El Pescador, Hol Chan is a small gap in the Mesoamerican Reef that is now a protected reserve and home to stunning marine life including sea turtles, sharks, rays, lobster, shrimp, grouper, snapper, and hundreds of colorful reef fish. After snorkeling all morning you can come back to El Pescador and dip in the pool or take a nap in a hammock on the beach between palm trees.
Day Four

Let’s go fishing! Get back on the water and try to get your name etched in history aboard El Pescador’s Grand Slam plaque. Both adult and juvenile tarpon can often be found on the lagoon side of Ambergris Caye near the inlets and mangroves. The Black Death is a popular tarpon fly as are cockroaches and streamer patterns. Hooking a tarpon is really just a small part of what goes into successfully landing one – once the fish is hooked be prepared to bow to the king as they’ll take off in a series of high leaps out of the water thrashing their heads trying to throw your hook.
Day Five

Give your body a rest and spend this day on the mainland explore Mayan ruins. Covering nearly 25 sq miles, Altun Ha features three Mayan plazas and 13 different buildings. It is believed this site was first settled as far back as 250 BC and at its height during the Mayan empire was home to 10,000 inhabitants. The largest jade figure ever found among Mayan ruins was discovered here and is now on display in Belize City.
Day Six

Let’s go fishing! Head back out for one more day of fly fishing and get your name on that plaque! Inshore fly fishing is said to be the most difficult type of fishing there is, and if you’ve ever had any interaction with a permit chances are you can relate. Clever, armed with incredible eyesight, picky, and easily spooked are all terms used to describe this exotic game fish. Add to that they have mouths as tough as leather and they’ll take off on scorching runs over the flats trying to spit your hook or snap your line on coral and you have yourself a worthy challenge. The miles of flats around Ambergris Caye provide ample opportunity for permit no matter the wind direction or conditions, and if all else fails they can always find bonefish at one of the various flats.
Day Seven

Enjoy your last day in Belize! Use this day to relax at the beach, explore the local town of San Pedro on your bicycle, or if you really can’t get enough you can even wade in and cast flies to bonefish right in front of El Pescador. Enjoy your last day in paradise before you head back to the real world.
Day Eight

El Pescador will take you back to the San Pedro Airstrip for a 20 minute flight back to the BZE Airport and your flight home.
