Los Buzos Resort

At a Glance

Located in the remote Azuero Peninsula, the southernmost point of Panama, you’ll find the Los Buzos Resort. Los Buzos became a household name in the sport fishing world a decade ago thanks to its world class kayak fishing operation, including their famous 600 lb black marlin caught from a kayak and 7 IGFA world records. With a new focus on sport fishing, they boast a fleet of 27’ super pangas that were custom-designed for this fishery. Whether you are casting to the rocks, jigging at one of the hundreds of different spots, or running a few miles to run offshore in search of yellowfin tuna, mahi, and marlin, few fisheries in the world offer the diversity and proximity that Los Buzos enjoys.

Property Info

Located near the quiet beach town of Cambutal, the Los Buzos Resort is one of Panama’s most boutique yet diverse fishing lodges. Guests can choose between three beachfront casitas as part of the main lodge, or for more space and privacy they can upgrade to larger private rental homes. All accommodations feature air conditioning, private baths with hot water showers, and comfortable bedding. Your stay at Los Buzos includes three meals per day along with all you can drink local beer, Gatorade, iced tea and water. They also feature the Roosterfish Bar & Grill for cocktails and snacks, a small gift & tackle store, and even spa services.

The Azuero Peninsula is the southernmost point of Panama, separating the Bay of Panama to the east and the Gulf of Chiriqui to the west. Nicknamed “the Tuna Coast”, its unique geography puts it just a few miles from the continental shelf so offshore fishing for marlin, mahi, and yellowfin tuna is less than a seven mile run from the lodge. While offshore fishing is always waiting close by, Los Buzos is best known for its incredible inshore and bottom fishing. The majority of the coastline west of Playa Cambutal pertains to the Cerro Hoya National Park, therefore anglers can enjoy an untouched, pristine coastline with precious little fishing pressure. Los Buzos boasts 7 IGFA world records (length of fish), so anglers looking for giant roosterfish, cubera snapper and broomtail grouper will be in heaven. It also features a ton of variety with 20-30 different species available in any given week.

The fleet of pangas at Los Buzos are custom-designed, 27’ super pangas. With a modular seating design, they can be modified to provide more seating or removed to create more deck space. All boats are equipped with 10 rod holders, GPS, depth finder, and a high bow design for smoother and drier runs. The lodge tackle includes Shimano TLD 25s and Diawa spinning gear, and of course guests are always welcome to bring their own tackle too. All of the pangas are equipped with heavy duty bean bag chairs for comfort, cooler full of drinks, and your lunches.

Spanning from the beach up to the rainforest-covered mountains, the Los Buzos Resort covers over 400 acres. Their very own ‘Parque Los Buzos’ consists of 200 acres of land protected as nature reserves. For non-fishing guests, or for anyone who needs an off day after fighting fish all day, you can enjoy guided hikes, a Kawasaki Mule ride, and horseback riding. Los Buzos touches the limits of the Cerro Hoya National Park, so visitors can regularly see monkeys, sloths, green macaws, iguanas, snakes and more. During the migratory humpback whale season, female humpback whales and their newborn calves can literally be seen from the shore and are a common site on fishing days.
