The incredible tuna fishing in Panama is far from a secret in the sport fishing world, but there are still spots that are relatively unknown and receive far less pressure than others. One of these would be the Panama’s Tuna Coast, also known as the Azuero Peninsula. In Western Panama, this mostly undeveloped peninsula juts out into the Pacific and in-season the yellow-fin tuna can swim just a few miles from shore. The El Rio Negro Lodge allows you to enjoy that along with incredible inshore fishing around numerous islands and in Panama’s largest estuary for a fishing experience few can match.

Day One
Fly into Panama City, Panama where you will be met and taken directly to your waiting private transfer. You will spend your first night downtown at the TRYP Panama Centro, which is centrally located to restaurants, bars, and casinos in a safe and trendy neighborhood. Enjoy modern, air conditioned rooms, free wifi, a rooftop pool, and buffet breakfast.

Day Two
It’s your choice if you want to sleep in and enjoy a relaxed morning or get up early and be ambitious on your first full day in Panama. If it’s the later, we can give you a private guided tour of Panama City and the Panama Canal or even take you out for a morning of fishing on the Panama Canal for peacock bass and snook. Whatever you decide, late morning or early afternoon our air conditioned van will pick you up drive you out to the El Rio Negro Lodge located on western side of the Azuero Peninsula. Built in 1995, ‘Rio Negro’ was one of the first fishing lodges established in western Panama and is still a family run business today. The large guest house features four spacious rooms, each equipped with two twin beds, air conditioning, private bathroom with hot water showers, and free wifi. The lodge is all inclusive so all meals, alcoholic drinks, and even laundry service are included in your stay. Rio Negro is very exclusive due to having just four rooms which allows a more boutique and private atmosphere for anglers who want to enjoy good fishing, good food, and good friends.

Day Three
Fishing day! Head out for a full day of fishing along Panama’s ‘Tuna Coast.’ El Rio Negro Lodge has a fleet of four boats, each of them 32’-35’ center consoles custom made to be able to fish all the different venues this area as to offer. Today you’ll head offshore to famous hot spots like Cebaco Island and Coiba Island in search of huge schools of yellow-fin tuna busting the water with birds working above them. Fish high quality Penn & Shimano reels as you dig in for a full day of tuna fishing.

Day Four
Fishing day! Head out for another full day of popping and jigging along the Tuna Coast. Although it’s nickname is certainly well earned, the El Rio Negro Lodge’s location on the western side of the Azuero Peninsula offers much more than just offshore tuna fishing. The rocky coastline features numerous islands and outcrops that are home to bruisers like the cubera snapper, amberjacks, and the prized roosterfish. Whether it’s chucking poppers towards the rocks, jigging over reefs, or slow trolling live bait you’ll enjoy a full day of exciting inshore fishing action. After a long day of fishing head back to the relaxed atmosphere of the lodge and enjoy hors d’oeuvres, a cold drink, and then a delicious dinner with friends.

Day Five
Fishing day! Head back out for another full day of offshore fishing. It’s much more than tuna fishing here on the Tuna Coast as El Rio Negro offers close proximity offshore hotspots that hold blue and black marlin, sailfish, dorado and wahoo. With zero commercial fishing pressure in these waters and no other lodges nearby, the offshore fishing in this part of Panama is as good as it gets. Whether you are trolling live bonito for marlin or chasing the tuna again you are in for another full day of action offshore.

Day Six
Fishing day! Enjoy one final day of fishing in Panama before you head home. It’s your choice to head offshore for more trophy pelagics or fish inshore for the incredible amount of different species found here. El Rio Negro’s location on Playa Reina gives it access to Panama’s largest estuary, the Gulfo Montijo, where huge snook and sea bass can be found as well as the Coiba Island National Park and it’s 38 islands. Enjoy blistering runs as you fish light tackle spinning gear for up to 30 species of inshore fish in Panama.

Day Seven
You will be transferred back to Panama City and the PTY Airport for your international flight home. If your flight leaves early in the morning it is also possible to spend one final night in Panama City and fly home the next morning.
